This introduction to the basic theory of structural analysis and its application to various types of structures presents the theory and techniques for performing the analysis both manually and by computer. As students gain a solid foundation in the manual methods, they are not only able to check their manual solutions using the computer programs, but are also able to perform analyses of structures under various conditions to obtain a better understanding of structural behaviour. A set of computer programs (on CD-ROM), which can be used for various types of structural analysis is included. These programs allow students to analyze a structure for a variety of conditions in order to determine how changes in the properties of the structure or of the applied loads affect the response of the structure. Example problems first demonstrate the procedure for solving the problem manually, and then solve the same problem using the computer program, while numerous chapter-end problems require students to first solve the problem manually and then to check their solutions using an appropriate computer program.

This course uses computer-based methods for the analysis of large-scale structural systems. Topics covered include: modeling strategies for complex structures; application to tall buildings, cable-stayed bridges, and tension structures; introduction to the theory of active structural control; design of classical feedback control systems for civil structures; and simulation studies using customized computer software.

Design Sensitivity Analysis Of Structural Systems written by Vadim Komkov and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986-05-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The book is organized into four chapters. The first three treat distinct types of design variables, and the fourth presents a built-up structure formulation that combines the other three. The first chapter treats finite-dimensional problems, in which the state variable is a finite-dimensional vector of structure displacements and the design parameters. The structual state equations are matrix equations for static response, vibration, and buckling of structures and matrix differential equations for transient dynamic response of structures, which design variables appearing in the coefficient matrices.

Advanced Analysis And Design Of Steel Frames written by Gou-Qiang Li and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-06-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Steel frames are used in many commercial high-rise buildings, as well as industrial structures, such as ore mines and oilrigs. Enabling construction of ever lighter and safer structures, steel frames have become an important topic for engineers. This book, split into two parts covering advanced analysis and advanced design of steel frames, guides the reader from a broad array of frame elements through to advanced design methods such as deterministic, reliability, and system reliability design approaches. This book connects reliability evaluation of structural systems to advanced analysis of steel frames, and ensures that the steel frame design described is founded on system reliability. Important features of the this book include: fundamental equations governing the elastic and elasto-plastic equilibrium of beam, sheer-beam, column, joint-panel, and brace elements for steel frames; analysis of elastic buckling, elasto-plastic capacity and earthquake-excited behaviour of steel frames; background knowledge of more precise analysis and safer design of steel frames against gravity and wind, as well as key discussions on seismic analysis. theoretical treatments, followed by numerous examples and applications; a review of the evolution of structural design approaches, and reliability-based advanced analysis, followed by the methods and procedures for how to establish practical design formula. Advanced Design and Analysis of Steel Frames provides students, researchers, and engineers with an integrated examination of this core civil and structural engineering topic. The logical treatment of both advanced analysis followed by advanced design makes this an invaluable reference tool, comprising of reviews, methods, procedures, examples, and applications of steel frames in one complete volume.

Analysis Of Skeletal Structural Systems In The Elastic And Elastic Plastic Range written by Adam Borkowski and has been published by Elsevier Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with Elastic analysis (Engineering) categories.

The purpose of this book is to provide a smooth transition from linear elasticity through the nonlinear behaviour induced by unilateral constraints to full-scale plasticity. It presents applications of Mathematical Programming to nonlinear static analysis of skeletal structures (trusses, frames, grillages etc.). It is demonstrated that under the assumption of small displacements, a broad class of structural analysis problems exhibit the same internal structure. Such is the case with elastic analysis in the presence of unilateral supports or tension-only members, elastic-plastic analysis in both holonomic and non-holonomic formulations and, finally, ultimate load analysis. Throughout the book a clear and uniform methodology of presentation is used. First a complete set of governing relations is derived for a particular problem. Then that set is shown to be equivalent to a certain minimax problem (the saddle point problem), that in turn can be replaced by a pair of constrained extremum problems (dual MP-problems). Thus the complementary energy principles are established, furnishing the basis for the development of methods of numerical solution.
